Tangier plans Africa’s first automated container terminal

APM Terminals (part of A.P. Moller-Maersk) plans to develop Africa’s first automated container terminal in Tangier, Morocco. The new terminal will have an annual capacity of five million TEUs and increase the port’s total capacity to to more than nine million TEUs.

Tangier is the third largest seaport in Africa and a North African success story. According to the World Bank, Tangier has created new jobs three times faster than the Moroccan average. The city produces 400,000 vehicles per year and is major shipping route through the Mediterranean Sea and a gateway for North Africa.
