Pipeline politics in East Africa – Uganda picks Tanga Port

Tanzania Daily News reports that at ministerial level, Uganda has chosen the Tanga Port in Tanzania as the suitable route to export its crude oil from Hoima. Pipeline politics is playing out in East Africa, with both Tanzania and Kenya are vying for the “Gateway of East Africa” status. There has been increased speculation about the Northern pipeline route through Kenya. Security around the port of Lamu remains a major concern. The Tanga route (Tanzanian port) found itself in pole position in recent months. At present, three companies own 33.3% each of the oil fields and they include Total E&P, Tullow Oil and CNOOC.
