Liberian police is still investigation the mysterious abandoned “ghost” oil tanker, that washed up a week ago on the shores of Liberia in West Africa. The Tamaya 1, registered in Panama, was found without crew or lifeboats. A source at the National Port Authority (NPA), speculated that the “vessel’s owner might have gone broke and had no money to pay crew members”.
Piracy has not been ruled out. In West Africa, piracy is concentrated in the Gulf of Guinea, East of Liberia. But, one of the two lifeboats were missing, adding to the speculation that the ship’s owner abandoned the tanker. African economies have been hit hard by the downturn in the oil price.
