Transnet’s Port of Ngqura unveils new investment

South Africa’s newest and deepest container port, The Port of Ngqura, unveiled a new administration buildings and a administration craft basin for pilot boats and tugboats on Wednesday.

The Port of Ngqura 20 km North of Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape, forms part of the Coega Industrial Development Zone, but falls under the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA).The port is designed for 2 million TEU (20 foot equivalent units) per annum.

The main function of the port is to handle industrial bulk commodities, and to relieve congestion in other South African ports. The Port of Ngqura represents a R700 million ($45.5 million) investment by the TNPA.
