AstraZeneca wins Gartner’s 2016 Supply Chainnovator Award for Healthcare in Africa

Gartner, Inc. has announced AstraZeneca, as the winner of the 2016 Supply Chainnovator Award for Healthcare. AstraZeneca’s Healthy Heart Africa program, is employing supply chains across multiple networks, and aims to increase the number of Africans who are screened for hypertension. The program’s goal is to reach 10 million people by 2025. The three components of the program include, education and awareness, training, and ensuring there is access to affordable medicine.

The price of life-saving medicine in Africa, is often higher than Europe and North America, according to studies done by Doctors Without Borders and UNAIDS. Out of stocks and counterfeit products are also major challenges.

Other winners include Mercy ROi (US health care supply chain), Cisco (original equipment manufacturer),Jabil (electronic manufacturing services), and Mead Johnson Nutrition (Consumer Retail Supply Chain). The winners were announced in the United States,  at the Supply Chain Executive Conference in Phoenix, Arizona.
