For any small business or individual, shipping less-than-truck load (LTL) and less-than-container load (LCL), can be tricky and costly. Small shippers and freight forwarders, mostly lack the networks and transportation management systems, to match them with the suitable parties; and risk management remains a factor when dealing with smaller third parties. For freight forwarders, LTL is often less of a priority, and some operators only deal with full truckload.
Ghanaian startup Swiftly, is trying to address this challenge, by taking the sharing economy to the shipping industry. Their peer-to-peer (P2P) shipping platform, is matching freight forwarders and shippers with one another. Parties share space and cost, and the platform is targeting sea, air and delivery in the LTL and LCL segments. Swiftly also aims to simplify the shipping and documentation process, and has launched an Android & IOS for Africa’s mobile-centric community.
