Tanzania plans to establish a commercial hub and dry port in Dodoma, the national capital of Tanzania. The World Bank has committed Sh100 million ($45,500) for the construction of the dry port. Dodoma is in the center of the country, 486km West of Dar es Salaam, the former capital. The government decided to move the capital to the centre of the country, to be “closer to the people.”
Tanzania is expecting increased commercial opportunities with the upgrade of the airport. Most Tanzanians have taken to the road, when traveling to Dodoma, with the capital notorious for high air fares. Government officials based in Dar Es Salaam, use mostly charter and lease flights when traveling to Dodoma.
